German Jews decided they are going to fight for the preservation of the Torah

About Us

Adas Yeshurun of Beit Shemesh holds a monthly Friday night minyan according to the nusach and minhagim of traditional, historic Ashkenaz, ie Minhag Ashkenaz aka Yekke davening. We meet in an apartment in the Dolev area on the first Friday night after each Rosh Chodesh. We have a seating section for ladies. You don't need a background in Minhag Ashkenaz or immediate ancestry within German Jewry to join us. All you need is either a love for the moving traditions of Ashkenaz or curiosity about them. Please write to AdasBeitShemesh@outlook.com or phone 058-324-0374 for more information.

The Original Customs

"Behold it is known that all the people of Poland, Hungary, and Russia...are children of Ashkenaz even Chasidim. And until Chasidus spread they all prayed with nusach Ashkenaz. However, the Chasidic leaders lead them to pray in a different nusach with various changes...They changed the customs of their ancestors and our great rabbis of Germany and France. The reason for the change is not clear nor how they permitted a change from the established nusach....If one desires to change back and pray in nusach Ashkenaz, since it is the nusach of our ancestors and rabbis, he is permitted as he is returning to what once was." R' Moshe Feinstein, Iggeres Moshe, Orach Chaim 4:24
